Rugby-Japan's Ohata out of World Cup with ruptured Achilles
OSAKA, Japan, Aug 26 (Reuters) - Japan's main attacking threat Daisuke Ohata has been forced out of the rugby World Cup after rupturing his Achilles tendon, officials said on Sunday.
The winger, who has scored a world record 69 test tries, limped out of the first half of Japan's 15-13 win over Portugal in Lisbon on Saturday clutching his left foot in agony.
The rugby World Cup begins in France on Sept. 7.
"It's his left Achilles tendon and it looks like he won't be taking part in the World Cup," the Japan Rugby Football Union told Reuters on Sunday.
Japan face World Cup contenders Australia in the Pool B opener on Sept. 8. The "Brave Blossoms" are also grouped with Wales, Fiji and Canada.
