Soccer-Atlante hold Pumas in first leg of Mexican final

MEXICO CITY, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Atlante held Pumas UNAM to a 0-0 draw away from home in the first leg of the Mexican championship final lateon Thursday.

Pumas had the better of the match, which produced only a handful of scoring chances, but were denied by Atlante's Argentine goalkeeper Federico Vilar.

Atlante's best chance came in the 77th minute when UNAM goalkeeper Sergio Bernal was caught out of his goal but Christian Bermudez's shot was deflected wide by defender Dario Veron.

The second leg will be played on Sunday in Cancun, where Atlante, who had the best record in the qualifying stage of the competition, need only another draw to take the title. (Reporting by Carlos Calvo, Editing by Peter Rutherford)
