Soccer-Roundup-Chinese giants Dalian join S.League
SINGAPORE, Jan 30 (Reuters) - Soccer news in brief from around the world:
* Chinese Super League team Dalian Shide will play in Singapore's S.League this season, the city-state's soccer federation has announced.
China's most successful team, winners of eight league titles in the last 14 seasons, were one of eight foreign sides which applied to join the league. However, Dalian are likely to send only reserve and youth players, Singaporean media reported.
The club are multiple winners of the league, cup and super cup competitions in China. Former players include Manchester City's Sun Jihai and Manchester United's Dong Fangzhuo. Dalian replace Chinese side Liaoning Guangyuan, who were denied a place after a series of corruption scandals.
* Real Madrid midfielder Guti is holding out hope his fine club form this season will persuade Spain coach Luis Aragones to include him in the squad for Euro 2008.
"It will be very difficult because Luis has made it clear he prefers other players, but if I keep playing well for Real I will have more of a chance," Guti was quoted as saying in Marca. "You can never lose hope. Not having played at a European championship or a World Cup is something that really hurts me."
* Deportivo Coruna coach Miguel Angel Lotina is aiming to improve the atmosphere at the club following the dressing room bust-up between Gustavo Munua and Dudu Aouate by offloading one of the two keepers before the transfer deadline expires on Thursday. Continued...
