There's something fishy about Halloween in Japan

YOKOHAMA (Reuters Life!) - Bats, black cats and now fish -- a Japanese aquarium is resorting to schools of decidedly unscary butterfish to celebrate Halloween.

The small fish at the Hakkei-jima Sea Paradise aquarium in Yokohama, who normally play second fiddle to the star attraction, the dolphins, have been pulling in visitors with their jack-o-lantern impersonation.

The fish's trick, or treat, is quite simple: the face of a jack-o-lantern is stuck on the outside of the aquarium glass while a diver holds a bucket of food behind it, prompting the fish to swarm around the face in a ball-like formation.

"I was surprised that those tiny fish could gather and form such a big face," said 8-year-old Rika Okada who came with her mother and a friend.

Halloween is relatively new to Japan, but more and more Japanese have been introduced to the festival due to the influence of the U.S. media.
