Soccer-Sport Recife win Copa Brasil on away goals
RIO DE JANEIRO, June 11 (Reuters) - Sport Recife won the Copa Brasil on away goals on Wednesday after a 2-0 win over Corinthians produced a 3-3 draw over the two legs.
Trailing 3-1 from the first leg, Sport turned the tie around with two goals in a two-minute spell in the first half.
Corinthians had two players sent off, including a substitute who was dismissed after only a minute on the pitch.
Carlinhos Bala opened the scoring in the 35th minute with an angled shot from inside the area and Luciano added the second two minutes later with a shot that bounced awkwardly in front of Corinthians goalkeeper Felipe.
Corinthians's problems increased when Wellington Saci, who came on in the 66th minute, was dismissed a minute later for stamping on Bala on the touchline.
The visitors also had defender William red carded in injury time for a foul on the same player.
Corinthians, one of Brazil's most popular clubs, reached the final of the knockout contest only six months after being relegated to the second division of the national championship.
Sport coach Nelsinho Baptista was in charge of Corinthians when they went down.
Sport won the Copa thanks to an impressive home campaign at the Ilha de Retiro stadium in Recife, although visiting teams complained of underhanded tactics. Continued...
