NEW YORK, July 15 (Reuters) - Former United States captain Claudio Reyna is to announce his retirement after struggling with injuries in Major League Soccer this season.

The league's website (www.mlsnet.com) said Reyna had announced a press conference for 1400 EST (1800 GMT) on Wednesday where he was "expected to announce his retirement".

The 34-year-old Reyna, who played in England and Germany, has started just six of the New York Red Bulls' games this season.

Reyna made 112 appearances for the U.S and played for Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg in Germany, Glasgow Rangers in Scotland and Sunderland and Manchester City in England.

The attacking midfielder moved to the Red Bulls last season but he has not played since May 25 due to a back injury.

He played in the past four World Cups.
