Golf-Wie disqualified from State Farm Classic
LOS ANGELES, July 19 (Reuters) - Michelle Wie was disqualified following Saturday's third round of the LPGA State Farm Classic due to an infraction in signing her scorecard for the second round on Friday.
Wie had just carded a third round of 67 that left her a shot off the lead when she was notified of the error.
"It's really unfortunate. I don't know what happened ... but I forgot to sign the scorecard," Wie told reporters. "I left the tent area and a couple of the scorers went after me and I signed and turned it in. I thought it would be OK."
Her infraction came when she left the defined scoring area before signing her card, a violation of the USGA rule.
The incident marks the second time Wie has been disqualified for a rules infraction as a professional. She was disqualified for taking an improper drop at the 2005 Samsung World Championship, her first tournament as a pro. (Reporting by Jahmal Corner; Editing by Peter Rutherford)
