UPDATE 1-Woodside restarts oil production after cyclone
(Adds details on BHP's and Santos' operations)
SYDNEY, Jan 2 (Reuters) - Woodside Petroleum Ltd (WPL.AX), Australia's second-largest oil and gas producer, said it had resumed production at its 50,000 barrels per day (bpd) Enfield oil field off Western Australia after a cyclone threat passed.
Other operators, including BHP Billiton Ltd (BHP.AX)(BLT.L) and Santos Ltd (STO.AX) were also working to restart production at various fields after category two tropical cyclone Melanie forced them to shut down operations over the weekend.
"Operations at Enfield have resumed and it is running at full production rate," Woodside's spokeswoman Kirsten Stoney said on Wednesday.
Stoney said production at Woodside's around 70,000 bpd Cossack-Pioneer oil field in northwest Australia was expected to resume later in the day.
BHP, Australia's largest oil and gas producer, said production at the Griffin oil field was still shut in and it was waiting for calmer weather before restarting.
BHP's spokeswoman Emma Meade said the production vessel for the 10,600 bpd Griffin field could be reconnected to the field on Thursday, depending on weather conditions.
Production at the 80,000 bpd Stybarrow field had resumed at reduced levels since Dec. 31, she said.
Santos, Australia's third-largest oil and gas producer, said operations at the Mutineer-Exeter field were expected to resume within 12-24 hours after a shutdown since Saturday. Continued...
