PRECIOUS-Gold steady, remains near record high

TOKYO, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Gold was little changed on
Wednesday but continued to trade near record highs marked earlier
this week as the precious metal's appeal as a hedge against a
depreciating dollar remained intact.

FUNDAMENTALS

* Spot gold XAU= was at $1,105.70 per ounce at 2347 GMT
Tuesday, up 0.04 percent from New York's notional close of
$1,105.30.

* Bullion hit a new high of $1,110.85 per ounce on Monday.

* U.S. gold futures for December delivery GCZ9 were at
$1,107.20 an ounce, up 0.4 percent. It hit an all-time high of
$1,111.70 on Monday.

* The world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, SPDR
Gold Trust (GLD), said its holdings stood at 1,114.443 tonnes as
of Nov. 10, unchanged from the previous business day. [GOL/SPDR]

MARKET NEWS

* The dollar bounced off a 15-month low on Tuesday and the
euro dropped below $1.50 as investors paused to assess whether
the global outlook justifies a recent rally in higher-yielding
currencies and assets [USD/]

* U.S. stocks closed mostly lower on Tuesday as differing
views on whether the market can build on recent gains stalled the
S&P 500's six-day winning streak. [.N]

* Oil prices fell on Tuesday as the dollar firmed and energy
companies began restoring offshore operations disrupted by
Tropical Storm Ida. [O/R]
