Tohoku Elec shuts oil-fired power plant after quake
TOKYO, July 24 (Reuters) -Japanese utility Tohoku Electric Power Co (9506.T) said it manually shut its 250-megawatt oil-fired power plant in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture at 0:27 a.m. on Thursday (1527 GMT Wednesday) after a strong earthquake jolted northern Japan.
An official based at the plant said the shutdown was in part a precaution in case of aftershocks and that the company was inspecting the facility. He added that the company had not determined when it could restart the plant.
The plant can run on fuel oil and crude oil, but fuel oil is the main feedstock, he added. (Reporting by Osamu Tsukimori; Editing by Chris Gallagher)
