Soccer-Japanese player suspended over intravenous flu supplement
TOKYO, April 25 (Reuters) - Japan striker Kazuki Ganaha was suspended by his J-League club Kawasaki Frontale on Wednesday for taking an intravenous supplement to cure a bout of influenza.
The 26-year-old was put on an IV drip by Kawasaki's club doctor on Monday in violation of the J-League's anti-doping rules.
Although the player did not take a banned substance, intravenous treatment is banned by Japan's domestic league in line with world soccer's governing body FIFA.
Ganaha will be sidelined until the J-League's disciplinary committee decides what punishment to hand down.
"I had a cold and took what the club doctor gave me," Ganaha told reporters. "It was a garlic infusion and I had no idea it was not allowed."
