Germany still opposed to EU-wide bank fund
BERLIN (Reuters) - Germany remains opposed to any common fund to bail out Europe's banks, Finance Ministry spokesman Torsten Albig said on Sunday.
Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was quoted by Italian agencies as saying earlier on Sunday that such a fund will be proposed this week by Italy and is already assured the backing of Germany and France.
"This was an issue in Paris and there is no need to go over it again," Albig said, referring to a crisis meeting on Saturday in the French capital of the leaders of Britain, France, Germany and Italy.
Asked whether Germany supported the latest Italian proposal, Albig said: "No. Nothing has changed."
