Barclays expected to raise cash from investors

LONDON (Reuters) - Barclays will try to raise 7 billion pounds in extra capital from private investors rather than government funds, media reports said on Monday.

The BBC and The Daily Telegraph website said the bank would attempt to go it alone while rivals such as Royal Bank of Scotland and HBOS receive billions of pounds from taxpayers.

A spokesman for Barclays declined to comment.

Credit headwind

News headlines speak of recovery, but financing is still a big problem in Germany. The dearth of credit to tide firms over is frustrating policymakers, who are blaming reluctant banks and there is little agreement on how best to increase lending flows.  Full Article
