Lehman Europe says some creditors may lose money
LONDON (Reuters) - Some creditors of Lehman Brothers International (Europe) will likely lose their money, but it will take a long time before it becomes clear how much, administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) said on Friday.
"The prospect is that some creditors will lose money. How much -- we can't determine that for a significant time," Tony Lomas, joint administrator, told reporters at a press conference after a meeting of creditors.
There is about $1 trillion (676 billion pounds) worth of positions at Lehman Europe, PWC said, with half a trillion of assets and half a trillion of liabilities.
"We don't know how much of that asset value will be lost or (those) obligations ... will rise," Lomas said.
Lehman Brothers International is the European unit of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc (LEHMQ.PK), which filed for bankruptcy protection in September.
