"Financial crisis" is Germany's phrase of 2008
BERLIN (Reuters) - "Finanzkrise" (financial crisis) was picked on Thursday as Germany's "phrase of the year" by a panel of experts.
"The term 'Finanzkrise' sums up the dramatic developments in the banking, real estate and financial sectors," the Society for the German Language said. "It has been at the centre of the public's concerns more than any other term this year."
The word "verzockt" (gambled away) was picked as runner-up. In 10th place was "Yes, we can" -- Barack Obama's presidential campaign slogan.
