PRAGUE (Reuters) - Gas supplies to the Czech Republic from Russia fell significantly overnight, the main Czech supplier said on Tuesday, without giving details.

"The volume of gas deliveries from Gazprom Export through the transit network through Ukraine and Slovakia to the Czech Republic, as well as to other EU countries, dropped significantly," RWE Transgas said in a statement.

The company said it was now using gas from its underground storage facilities which, along with supplies from Norway, should cover the country's gas consumption.

"We are analysing the situation, but reasons for the significant drop are not identifiable. We only have the information that transit deliveries through Ukraine to Slovakia... were curbed," the statement added.

RWE Transgas said it would give updates on the situation throughout the day.

Czech media have reported that the country could sustain a 20 percent drop in supplies and still be able to meet demand for the entire winter with existing stocks.
