Injured Jagielka out of FA Cup final for Everton
LONDON (Reuters) - Everton defender Phil Jagielka will miss the FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley on May 30, said club physio Mick Rathbone.
The England international, who scored the winning penalty in the semi-final shootout against Manchester United, was carried off on a stretcher in Saturday's 2-1 Premier League defeat by Manchester City at Goodison Park.
"The scan has unfortunately confirmed what we already feared ... that Phil will be out for the rest of the season," Rathbone told the club's official website (www.evertonfc.com).
"He has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and will undergo surgery in around 10 days time when the swelling has gone down. It's too early to estimate a return to action."
The latest setback for Everton follows an almost identical injury to midfielder Mikel Arteta in February and the long-term absence of forwards Yakubu and Victor Anichebe.
