REYKJAVIK (Reuters) - Iceland's left-of-centre minority coalition is set to win a majority in an election held on Saturday, a television projection based on early results of the voting showed.

The projection, on state broadcaster RUV based on the counting of votes so far after polls closed at 2200 GMT, would give the Social Democratic Alliance 21 seats and the Left-Greens 16 seats, for a majority in the 63-seat parliament.

The long-ruling centre-right Independence Party, toppled by protests and replaced by the caretaker centre-left coalition in January, was set for 15 seats, down from 25 in 2007. (Reporting by Patrick Lannin)
