HOUSTON (Reuters) - BP Plc (BP.L) restarted an ultracracker at its 467,720 barrel per day (bpd) Texas City, Texas, refinery on Sunday, according to a notice filed with state pollution regulators.

The restart of the ultracracker is expected to last through Thursday, according to the notice filed with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

The ultracracker was shut on Monday for unplanned repairs.

An ultracracker is a type of hydrocracking unit that uses hydrogen under high heat and pressure to boost the motor fuels from a barrel of crude oil, especially cheaper oils with high sulfur content.

BP's Texas City refinery is the third largest in the United States.
