LONDON (Reuters) - American rapper Eminem shot to the top of the British pop charts on Sunday with his album "Relapse."

His first album release since 2004 was also the fastest selling of the year, the Official Charts Company said.

It pushed last week's best seller "21st Century Breakdown" from U.S. rock trio Green Day into second place.

Welsh rockers the Manic Street Preachers were also new at number three with their "Journal for Plague Lovers."

At number five London pop band Madness debuted with "The Liberty of Norton Folgate."

In the singles charts London rapper Dizzee Rascal went straight to number one with "Bonkers," featuring American producer Armand Van Helden.

"Boom Boom Pow" from American band the Black Eyed Peas slipped to number two, while British grime singer Tinchy Stryder and London group N-Dubz were down at third place with "Number 1."

Australian singer-songwriter Daniel Merriweather was new at number five with "Red," while Norway's Alexander Rybak entered the charts at number ten with his winning 2009 Eurovision Song Contest entry "Fairytale."
