Substitute Novo hands Rangers 33rd Scottish Cup
LONDON (Reuters) - A stunning strike from substitute Nacho Novo gave Rangers a 33rd Scottish FA Cup triumph after a 1-0 win over Falkirk at Hampden Park on Saturday.
The Spaniard, a halftime replacement, had only been on the field a matter of seconds when he collected Steven Whittaker's throw-in and arrowed a 30 metre drive past the helpless Dani Mallo in the Falkirk goal.
Falkirk thought they had equalised with 15 minutes remaining but substitute Michael Higdon's bundled effort was ruled offside.
The win gave Rangers a League and Cup double following their 3-0 victory over Dundee United on Sunday which denied arch rivals Celtic a fourth consecutive Premier League crown.
