Firefighter killed while tackling Edinburgh pub blaze
LONDON (Reuters) - A firefighter was killed while tackling a blaze at a pub in Edinburgh early on Sunday, officials said.
Seventy firefighters with 16 fire trucks were called out to the fierce fire at the pub in the Dalry area of Edinburgh soon after midnight, Lothian and Borders Fire Service said.
"Whilst tackling the fire a breathing apparatus crew of two firefighters was injured by the collapse of an internal floor," Chief Fire Officer Brian Allaway said in a statement.
"Tragically, despite the efforts of his colleagues one of the firefighters lost his life. The other firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary before being released earlier this morning," he said.
The victim's name was not released.
The firefighter's death and the cause of the fire were both under investigation.
