Schumer: Senate panel considers health insurer fees

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senate Finance Committee Democrat Charles Schumer said the panel is considering fees on health insurers to help pay for healthcare overhaul, and discussed the idea as recently as Wednesday morning.

Schumer told reporters the fee could raise $100 billion over a decade.

"We need the insurance companies to step up to the plate and become part of the solution," he said.
