New Zealander Campbell withdraws from Turnberry
TURNBERRY, Scotland (Reuters) - Former major champion Michael Campbell of New Zealand pulled out of the British Open during Friday's second round because of a shoulder injury, organisers said.
The 40-year-old, who won the 2005 U.S. Open at Pinehurst, was 21 over par for the tournament after 30 holes on Turnberry's Ailsa Course when he withdrew.
Ranked 298th in the world, Campbell has struggled for form since clinching his only major title and has failed to make a single cut on the European or PGA tours this season.
