WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Senator Max Baucus, an influential moderate Democrat, announced his opposition on Thursday to a climate change bill crafted by fellow Democrats John Kerry and Barbara Boxer.

Baucus said he would vote against the bill being considered by the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, saying the 20 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions it requires by 2020 is too high. He will seek a 17 percent cut, he said, in future work on legislation.
