SAfrica fuel, paper union to strike over wages
JOHANNESBURG, July 14 (Reuters) - A South African union representing workers in the energy, paper and pharmaceuticals sectors said on Tuesday it would launch a strike after wage negotiations with employers failed, threatening supplies. The Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers Union (CEPPWAWU) said the supply of fuel, medicine and pulp would potentially be affected by the industrial action. "After thorough discussions and assessment on the current wage negotiators (we) hereby declared... to embark on an industrial action," it said in a statement.
Dates for the strike had yet to be finalised.
Employers in the sectors include paper makers Sappi (SAPJ.J), Mondi (MNDJ.J) and petrochemicals group Sasol (SOLJ.J).
CEPPWAWU said it represents 65,000 members in the sectors. (Reporting by Agnieszka Flak)
