JOHANNESBURG, July 23 (Reuters) - AngloGold Ashanti (ANGJ.J), the world's third largest gold producer, said on Wednesday that four of its South African mines had been affected by a one-day strike against a jump in electricity prices.

Joanne Jones, a spokeswoman for the company said Great Nolingwa, Kopaneng, Tau Lekoa and Moab Khotsong had seen a turnout of up to 35 percent, but it was not immediately clear how much output would be lost.

She said any lost output could be recovered in due course, and that essential services relating to safety were unaffected.

Jones said attendance at Mponeng, Savuka and Tau Tona mines was normal.

The workers who stayed away were under the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), which has joined the strike called by the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) to pressure the government to limit price increases in South Africa.
