Power co AEP to invest $120 mln in green buildings
NEW YORK, Sept 28 (Reuters) - American Electric Power (AEP.N) and The AEP Foundation said on Friday they will invest an estimated $120 million over five years on environmentally friendly building technologies and education programs.
It is part of its participation in the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI), the Columbus, Ohio-based power company said.
AEP will invest at least $100 million in the next five years to build new or upgrade existing facilities using the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design building-rating system.
It will also contribute approximately $13 million to create public green space and develop hands-on educational activities to promote awareness about energy conservation, environmental stewardship, climate change and other environmental issues.
