HMV says continues to gain gaming market share
LONDON (Reuters) - Music, books and games retailer HMV Group (HMV.L) said on Tuesday it had continued to take market share in the fast-growing computer games market in the first eight weeks of its new financial year.
"The broad trends of market share growth are continuing," Chief Executive Simon Fox told reporters on a conference call, adding that recent releases such as Grand Theft Auto IV and Nintendo's (7974.OS) Wii Fit had been particularly strong.
HMV grew gaming market share by around 1 percentage point to about 8 percent in the year ended April 26, Finance Director Neil Bright said.
Fox also said HMV expected to continue growing market share in music and DVDs, but that increases were unlikely to be as large last fiscal year, when some rivals went out of business.
