US DOE awards $308 mln to BP-Rio Tinto project

WASHINGTON, July 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. Energy Department said on Wednesday it will provide up to $308 million in funding for a clean coal project being developed by Hydrogen Energy International LLC.

The company is a joint venture owned by BP's (BP.L) alternative energy unit and Rio Tinto (RIO.AX) (RIO.L). (Reporting by Ayesha Rascoe)
