NEW YORK, July 31 (Reuters) - Online advertising sales network quadrantONE, owned by four of the largest U.S. newspaper publishers, said on Thursday that it has hired a former DoubleClick executive as its chief executive officer.

Andy Ellenthal replaces Dana Hayes, who will stay on quadrantONE's board while resuming his duties as senior vice president of sales at Tribune Co, one of quadrantONE's owners.

Ellenthal most recently was senior vice president at video advertising company Visible World, where he was hired less than a year ago, according to that company.

He also worked at PointRoll, a subsidiary of USA Today publisher Gannett Co Inc (GCI.N) -- another quadrantONE co-owner.

QuadrantONE's goal is to make it easier for advertisers to buy space on hundreds of newspapers' websites at a time, something that it hopes will result in more online advertising dollars flowing to those sites when their publishers are dealing with a large decline in print ad revenue.

The company's other co-owners are the privately held Hearst Corp and New York Times Co (NYT.N). (Reporting by Robert MacMillan, editing by Gerald E. McCormick)
