BOGOTA Colombia has chosen the European DVBT
standard for it digital television upgrade, government
regulators said on Thursday.
The upgrade will take place within 10 years, according to
the National Television Commission.
The upgrade is expected by the government to attract about
$150 million in investment to the country's public television
networks and up to $60 million to Colombia's private networks.
"This is without doubt the most important decision in
Colombian television," Carolina Hoyos, president of the
commission, told reporters.
About 98 percent of homes in this Andean country of 44
million people have TV.
