NEW YORK, Dec 6 (Reuters) - The euro extended gains versus the dollar on Thursday, hitting session highs, after European Central Bank President Jean Claude Trichet said some governors at the bank would have supported a rate increase.
The ECB left benchmark rates steady at 4 percent at its policy meeting earlier.
The euro last traded 0.2 percent higher at $1.4627 EUR=, after touching a session high of $1.4636. (Editing by Theodore d'Afflisio)
