UPDATE 1-Super Micro sees Q3 below analysts' view
(Recasts, adds details, share movement)
April 9 (Reuters) - Super Micro Computer Inc (SMCI.O: Quote, Profile, Research), which makes computer servers, forecast third-quarter results below market estimates, partly due to higher expenses and the timing of revenue recognition from a project, sending its shares down 11 percent.
For the quarter, the company expects earnings of $4.5 million to $5.0 million, or 12 cents to 13 cents a share, on net sales of between $136.5 million and $137.0 million.
Excluding items, it sees earnings of 14 cents to 16 cents a share.
Two analysts on average were expecting earnings of 19 cents a share, before items, on revenue of $139.3 million, according to Reuters Estimates.
The company said it was forced to delay revenue of $1.4 million from a project due to supply constraints, and expects to recognize about $3 million in combined revenue from the project in the fourth quarter.
Operating expenses for the third quarter are expected to increase between $1.3 million and $1.8 million sequentially.
Shares of the company were trading at $8.41 after the bell. The stock had closed at $9.43 Wednesday on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Abhishek Chanda in Bangalore; Editing by Deepak Kannan)
