Kashagan consortium says takes further step towards first oil

LONDON, July 17 (Reuters) - The North Caspian Operating Company, developer of the much-delayed Kashagan offshore project in Kazakhstan, said on Wednesday it had introduced gas to its artificial island and lit its flare.

"This achievement brings the project a step closer to the start of production later this year," the consortium of international and Kazakh oil companies said in a statement.
