British Energy shares rise more than 5 percent after it says it has received a range of takeover proposals, some above Thursday's closing price.

Stock in the nuclear power generator gains 5.6 percent to 718 pence.

"Talk of the takeover is causing the share to rise, and they are expected to post results which should generally be positive," a trader says.

British Energy issues a result update on May 28.
