MADRID, Jan 8 (Reuters) - The board of Spanish oil company Repsol (REP.MC: Quote, Profile, Research) has approved spending more than 3.2 billion euros ($4.70 billion) to double production capacity at its Cartagena refinery to 220,000 barrels per day, it said on Tuesday.

The expanded refinery, which should start working in 2011, will significantly reduce Spain's growing import needs for diesel, Repsol said. (Reporting by Jason Webb)
