AES California Amamitos 6 unit off line - ISO

LOS ANGELES, Nov 1 (Reuters) - The AES Corp. (AES.N: Quote, Profile, Research) natural gas-fired 495-megawatt Alamitos Unit 6 in the Los Angeles area was off line Thursday for planned maintenance, the California Independent System Operator said in a report.

There was no indication when the unit would return.

The 2,000-megawatt, six-unit Alamitos power plant is located in Long Beach in Los Angeles County, about 25 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.

Four of the six units were listed on the Cal ISO report as available. Unit 3 was listed as having 107 MW of its 332 MW capacity not available.

Unit 1 entered service in 1956, Unit 2 in 1957, Unit 3 in 1961, Unit 4 in 1962, Unit 5 in 1964 and Unit 6 in 1966.

A megawatt can serve about 650 Southern California homes. (Reporting by Bernie Woodall)
