Coal loaded, sent to Europe from repaired US port
HOUSTON, Feb 9 (Reuters) - A U.S. coal terminal that was shut down a month for repairs has finished loading its first ship since resuming operation, and the vessel has sailed for Europe, a spokesman said on Saturday.
The ship, Eastern Power, finished loading 71,000 tons of U.S.-produced steam coal at Consol (CNX.N: Quote, Profile, Research) Energy Inc's CNX Marine Terminal in Baltimore, Maryland, late on Friday, Consol spokesman Tom Hoffman said.
The ship sailed from Baltimore at 11:15 p.m. EST (0415 GMT on Saturday), Hoffman said. He did not disclose the exact destination.
After the Eastern Power departed, another ship, the Trident Endeavor, docked at CNX Marine and began loading a 71,000-ton cargo of coal also bound for Europe, Hoffman said.
The terminal was shut down Jan. 3 after a sensor on a coal-loader detected a segment of the pier was sinking. Repairs were finished last weekend. (Reporting by Bruce Nichols; Editing by Xavier Briand)
