-- China Investment Corp is about to notify shortlisted candidates from more than 100 applicants hoping to manage its investments in global equity markets.

-- Tokyo will name its candidate for governor of the Bank of Japan as early as this week, amid growing signs that the opposition is prepared to accept Toshiro Muto.

-- Peer Steinbrueck, German finance minister, speaking at the meeting of G7 finance ministers in Japan warned that losses related to subprime mortgages in the United States could rise to $400 billion and that governments may have to inject capital to rescue banks

-- Falling U.S. clothing demand is adding to the woes of Asian garment makers already struggling because of rising costs and stronger currencies.

-- Sony Ericsson (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) (ERICb.ST: Quote, Profile, Research) has designated India, China and the United States priorities while it seeks to become one of the three largest mobile phone makers by 2011.

-- Reliance Power (RPOL.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) is poised to begin trading its shares on Monday in one of the biggest tests of sentiment in the country's stock market in years.
