HOUSTON, March 19 (Reuters) - Chevron Corp (CVX.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Wednesday the Tuesday night upset of an electrical power substation had no impact on production at its 260,000 barrel per day (bpd) Los Angeles-area refinery in El Segundo, California.

"We lost a portion of a substation and we passed over to a redundant system, which is part of the reason we don't really get too excited about these things," said Chevron's Rod Spackman. "It really had no impact on the refinery."

Prices rose in the Los Angeles wholesale market on refiner buying, leading to speculation Chevron needed to replace supply.

The power outage was attributed to a crow flying into the substation, according to a notice Chevron filed with the California Office of Emergency Services. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Andre Grenon)
