FACTBOX-Key climate, energy objectives from EU summit
(Reuters) - European Union leaders backed a series of proposals to fight climate change and open energy markets on Friday. Below is a list of the key targets and objectives:
1) A minimum 20 percent EU cut in greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, and a push for a bigger cut of 30 percent if other developed and emerging nations join in;
2) a target of 20 percent energy efficiency savings by 2020, including by requiring all homes, offices and streets to switch to energy-saving lighting; efforts to seek an international agreement on the issue;
3) a 20 percent binding target for energy consumption from renewables sources such as wind and solar across the EU BY 2020;
4) a minimum 10 percent target for biofuels in vehicles' petrol and diesel by 2020;
5) setting up 12 large scale plants that demonstrate sustainable fuel technologies by 2015 in an effort to test and promote carbon capture and storage by 2020;
6) greater separation of the generation and distribution activities of gas and electricity companies ("unbundling");
7) stronger independent regulators of gas and electricity markets with "cross-border perspective";
