LONDON (Reuters) - Ledley King and Emile Heskey were left out on Saturday when England manager Fabio Capello trimmed his squad to 23 for next week's friendly with Switzerland.

The Italian had named Tottenham Hotspur defender King and Wigan Athletic striker Heskey in his provisional 30-man squad on Thursday but they have now been omitted due to injury.

Defenders Nicky Shorey, Glenn Johnson and Curtis Davies plus midfielders Michael Carrick and Stewart Downing also miss out.

Davies, on loan to Aston Villa from West Bromwich Albion, was one of two players in the initial squad without a cap along with club mate Gabriel Agbonlahor who may still make his debut.

"I want to be clear that the players who have not made the squad this time are still part of my plans," Capello, who officially took over in January, told the FA Web site (www.thefa.com).

"It is of course a blow to lose Ledley King from the squad. He is a very good player who has impressed me a lot when I have seen him play.

"I am fully aware of his injury status after speaking with Juande Ramos on Friday.

"Emile Heskey's injury is disappointing too, but we have to concentrate on the players who are in the squad."  Continued...
