BERLIN (Reuters) - Stable prices are needed for solid growth, European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet said on Thursday.

"All citizens want price stability. Guaranteeing price stability in the medium term is a necessary condition for solid growth," Trichet said in Berlin where German President Horst Koehler was presenting him with a state honour.

Trichet did not comment on recent economic developments at the event.
