KABUL (Reuters) - A suicide car bomber targeted a convoy of foreign troops on Wednesday in southern Afghanistan, police said.

The attack happened on a road leading to Spin Boldak, a town near the border with Pakistan, said border police commander Abdul Razaq, adding he had no information about casualties among the troops.

"I saw smoke coming out of an armoured vehicle and wounded soldiers were shifted to other vehicles," Mohammad Yousuf, a resident of Spin Boldak who witnessed the incident, told Reuters by telephone.

Both NATO and U.S.-led coalition forces operate in Kandahar province, a bastion for Taliban insurgents.
