FACTBOX - Famous missing person cases
LONDON (Reuters) - Police have arrested a canoeist who has reappeared more than five years after he went missing, presumed drowned.
Here are five other famous missing person cases:
* Lord Lucan, a professional gambler and socialite whose nickname was "Lucky", has not been seen since November 8, 1974.
He went missing hours after his family's nanny was battered to death and his estranged wife was assaulted in their London home. There have been dozens of supposed sightings around the world.
* Former Labour MP and minister John Stonehouse disappeared on a Miami beach, also in November 1974, leaving behind a pile of clothes, a wife and tangled business affairs.
He was discovered a month later in Australia. He staged his own drowning to evade an insurance fraud scandal and was jailed for seven years.
* Dock worker Graham Cardwell was feared dead after his belongings were found on mudflats near the docks at Immingham, Lincolnshire in September 1998.
He was discovered living in the West Midlands eight months later. He told his family he disappeared because he thought he was suffering from cancer.
* Civil servant Thomas Osmond disappeared hours before he was due to stand trial for sex offences in March 1995. Continued...
