Endsleigh said the East Midlands city beat London and Bristol to head the list of places where the risk of burglary is highest.

Its study was based on the percentage of claims among Endsleigh policyholders in each town, rather than the total number of claims.

Nottingham’s burglary rate was 63.3 percent higher than the national average, while London and Bristol were 50 percent above the average.

“Every householder in the country needs to be aware of the possibility of burglary,” Endsleigh spokeswoman Rhiannon Harris said. “Domestic burglary figures may be dropping but there is no room for complacency.”

The number of burglaries fell by 59 percent between 1995 and 2007, according to British Crime Survey statistics.

Endsleigh’s report named Guildford in Surrey as the place with the fewest burglaries. Its rate was 82 percent below the national average.
