LONDON Game Group GMG.L said on Thursday the computer games market was "absolutely not" at a peak and was confident of a strong release schedule in the run-up to Christmas.
Some analysts have suggested that, with no new games consoles due for release in the near future, the games market will struggle to maintain recent growth rates.
"The point to make is that we haven't seen any new console releases in the first half and we were up against the launch of Playstation last year," Chief Executive Lisa Morgan told reporters, after Game Group said first-half profit would be higher-than-expected and at least 33 million pounds.
"What you're seeing now is that as the installed base (of consoles) grows there's a fantastic momentum for a whole host of software titles," she said, adding that recent blockbuster titles like Grand Theft Auto IV and Wii Fit were likely to remain big sellers in the run up to Christmas.
