BERLIN (Reuters) - Pursuing protectionist policies would be the wrong answer to the challenges facing the world, the German government, industry groups and unions said in a joint statement on Tuesday, though they made no direct mention of U.S. President Donald Trump.
"The necessity to commonly ensure a strong industry and economy in Europe arises not only from current developments in the United States and the effects of Brexit," the statement read. "Striving for political and economic protectionism is the wrong way."
