Bilbao's fourth win in five puts them in the hunt for the European places after midfielder Joseba Garmendia scored the only goal against Espanyol, with a first-half header.
Spain striker Raul Tamudo missed a penalty for Espanyol in the second half.

ATLETICO MADRID 6 ALMERIA 3
Antonio Lopez's free kick and a penalty from Uruguay striker Diego Forlan put Atletico two up inside six minutes. Almeria had defender Ruben Pulido sent off in the penalty incident.
The visitors struck back through Brazilian Felipe Melo and a piledriver from Juanma Ortiz by the 17th minute, only for Atletico's Portugal winger Simao Sabrosa to score with a free kick which Diego Alves fumbled into his own net. Continued...
